Woman critically injured, shot in the head on Watts Street in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — A woman is in critical condition following a shooting Tuesday evening in North Philadelphia, police said.

Officers from the 9th District responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 6:16 p.m. on June 18 on the 800 block of Watts Street. Upon arrival, they found an adult female with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was transported by police to Jefferson Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not identified the woman and did not disclose her age. No arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Investigation underway by Shooting Investigation Group

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Group is leading the case. Officers canvassed the area for evidence and potential witnesses.

Police have not confirmed whether the woman was targeted or if the shooting may have been accidental or random. There is no word yet on whether surveillance footage was recovered from the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
