Victim fights off attacker in DC home invasion

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent break-in and attempted sexual assault at a Northwest Washington home earlier this week, D.C. police announced Wednesday.

The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, June 14, in the 1200 block of 11th Street NW. Investigators say the suspect unlawfully entered an occupied residence and assaulted a victim while attempting to carry out a forced sexual act. He fled the scene before officers arrived.

Following an investigation, 32-year-old Makel McGrier, of Northeast D.C., was arrested on Wednesday, June 18, under a D.C. Superior Court warrant.

McGrier faces multiple charges including Burglary One, Assault with Intent to Commit First-Degree Sexual Abuse, and Third-Degree Sex Abuse.

Police make arrest in violent home invasion

Authorities have not released further details about how the suspect was identified or whether he and the victim knew each other. The case remains under investigation.
