Newark gunmen caught on camera

NEWARK, N.J. — A quiet stretch of Avon Avenue was shattered Tuesday afternoon on June 2nd when three suspects in a blue Infiniti targeted a pedestrian in a daylight shooting that left shell casings behind but no injuries.

Just before 2 p.m. on June 3, the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in the 100 block of Avon Avenue. Responding officers recovered six shell casings at the scene. Surveillance footage revealed that the suspects’ vehicle slowed after passing the victim, prompting one individual to jump out and chase the target while another opened fire from the front passenger seat.

The suspect who exited the car quickly re-entered, and the vehicle sped off heading east on Avon Avenue. The Infiniti was later found abandoned after a crash, with all occupants seen fleeing on foot northbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard and then east on Crawford Street.

Suspect Descriptions Released by Investigators

Suspect #1 is described as a Black male with a slim build, wearing a grey tracksuit, white sneakers, and a black ski mask. Suspect #2 wore light-colored clothing and white sneakers. Suspect #3, seen in surveillance footage, appeared to have long hair or dreadlocks and wore black and grey Retro #3 Air Jordan sneakers.

No one was injured in the incident, and investigators believe the shooting was targeted. The vehicle used by the suspects was recovered but not registered as stolen, and its connection to the individuals remains under investigation.

The shooting occurred in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood with multiple businesses nearby, though no bystanders were harmed.
