Barricaded woman detained by SWAT team after standoff at Secaucus hotel

SECAUCUS, N.J. — A woman was taken into custody early Saturday morning following a multi-hour standoff at the Extended Stay Hotel on Meadowlands Parkway, according to the Secaucus Police Department.

Police responded to the hotel at 8:53 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that a woman was behaving erratically and making violent threats, including threats to stab others. Upon arrival, officers said the woman also threatened harm to responding police before barricading herself inside her hotel room.

The Hudson County Regional SWAT team was called in to assist with the incident, which involved an emotionally disturbed person who refused to make contact with officers for more than three hours.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., SWAT officers made entry into the room and safely detained the woman. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Woman committed for psychiatric evaluation after threats and standoff

Following her detention, the woman was involuntarily committed to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Authorities have not released her identity or disclosed any criminal charges at this time.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller praised the coordination between local patrol officers and the regional SWAT team for resolving the incident without harm to anyone involved.
