Congress Heights Gunman on the Run After Double Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A search is underway for a suspect linked to a shooting that injured two people near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Mellon Street in Southeast on Sunday evening, police said.

Officers from the Seventh District responded around 6:45 p.m. after reports of gunfire and found an adult male and a 16-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were conscious and breathing when emergency responders arrived and were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

A surveillance camera captured the suspect in the area shortly after the shooting. Investigators released images and video of the person of interest to help gather leads.

Reward offered in ongoing investigation

A reward of up to $10,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.

Police are continuing to review video evidence and witness statements to track down the shooter.

The victims were recovering in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.
