TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A Mays Landing woman has pleaded guilty to theft and obstruction of justice in a fraud case involving over $147,000 stolen from a senior living community in Ocean Township, Ocean County Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan, Jr. announced Friday.

Alicia Campbell, 37, entered her plea before Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer on June 27 in connection with her former role as Lifestyle Director at the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course. Prosecutors will seek a six-year New Jersey State Prison sentence for theft and 18 months for obstruction at her September 5 sentencing. The sentences are expected to run concurrently.

Authorities say Campbell misused community funds between January 2019 and January 2022 to make personal purchases and transferred association money through Venmo to third parties who immediately returned the funds to her personal account.

Key Points

  • Alicia Campbell pleaded guilty to theft and obstruction on June 27
  • She misappropriated approximately $147,000 from Greenbriar Oceanaire between 2019 and 2022
  • Campbell also forged court documents to delay legal proceedings, citing a fake medical crisis

Campbell was initially charged in March 2023 and indicted by a grand jury in January 2024. In an attempt to delay court proceedings, Campbell claimed her child was undergoing leukemia treatment, first in Philadelphia and later in Texas, submitting forged documents that were later determined to be fraudulent.

Investigators discovered that Texas Children’s Hospital had never treated Campbell or her child and confirmed the documents were fabricated. Additional charges including tampering with public records and impersonation were filed in October 2024.

Campbell was arrested without incident and released under New Jersey’s bail reform guidelines.
