Philadelphia woman found dead in couch; suspect arrested in Spain

A woman hidden in a Philadelphia couch was stabbed to death, and the suspect is now in custody overseas.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A woman whose body was discovered hidden in a couch in a Frankford Avenue residence has been identified, and a suspect has been apprehended overseas, authorities said.

On April 5, while investigating a missing person case, officers from the Northeast Detective Division and the Crime Scene Unit found the body of Yuleisy Carolina Torrelles-Martinez inside the living room of a home on the 4400 block of Frankford Avenue. Medics with the Philadelphia Fire Department pronounced her dead at 8:26 a.m.

A post-mortem exam by the Office of the Medical Examiner determined Torrelles-Martinez died from multiple sharp force injuries. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Following a lengthy investigation, the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified 28-year-old Gerelys Sanchez-Reyes as a suspect. On Thursday, Sanchez-Reyes was arrested in Spain by U.S. Marshals.

The U.S. Marshals Service is handling details of the overseas arrest. Sanchez-Reyes is currently awaiting extradition to Philadelphia to face charges of murder and related offenses.
