INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A Charles County retiree and his wife are celebrating a $2,041,396 jackpot win after purchasing a FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive ticket at Mutt’s Liquors, Maryland Lottery officials confirmed.
The winner initially had trouble reading the ticket after scanning it and seeing the “Go to Lottery” message, but later realized they had the progressive jackpot after spotting a news article mentioning a $2 million winner at their favorite liquor store.
The couple claimed the prize on July 1 at Lottery headquarters and plan to use the money to buy a house and help family members.
FAST PLAY progressive games increase the jackpot with every ticket sold until a winner hits.
Mutt’s Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
