COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Clayton Webb, a North Carolina-based truck driver, turned an overnight stop in College Park into a $50,000 payday with a winning FAST PLAY Double Win ticket, Maryland Lottery officials confirmed.
Webb, who was between deliveries on July 1, purchased the $5 ticket at a Wawa convenience store on Baltimore Avenue. He quickly realized he had won the top-tier prize and quietly pocketed the ticket until claiming it the next morning at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Webb, who cuts grass on 52 acres when not on the road, said the timing was perfect as he needed to replace the blown engine on his lawn mower.
After picking up his prize on July 2, he returned to his truck route with nine hours of driving left to reach North Carolina.
Retailer gets bonus for selling ticket
The Wawa that sold the winning ticket will receive a $500 retailer bonus.
Double Win still has 13 top prizes of $50,000 remaining, along with thousands of other lower-tier prizes.
