HARBESON, DE — A 33-year-old Ellendale man was arrested Tuesday morning after crashing a commercial truck and attempting to hide stolen firearms, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers say James Fisher was driving a Ford F-750 south on Harbeson Road just before 8:40 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he veered out of his lane and struck several parked vehicles in the 18000 block.

Following the crash, witnesses saw Fisher remove a bag from the truck and hide it behind a nearby tree. Responding troopers located the bag and found multiple firearms, ammunition, and ballistic vests inside. Investigators determined the items had been stolen.

Fisher showed signs of impairment at the scene, police said. He was given field sobriety tests and taken into custody.

“Troopers also located the bag that Fisher hid behind the tree,” Delaware State Police said in a statement.

Fisher, who is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, suffered minor injuries but declined medical transport.

He was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, receiving a stolen firearm, DUI, and related traffic and weapons charges. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $25,530 secured bond.

Fisher remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
