76-year-old woman killed in two-car crash in Dover

DOVER, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday evening at the intersection of Birchfield Drive and Forrest Avenue.

The incident happened around 6 p.m., when a Honda Accord failed to remain stopped at a stop sign and entered Forrest Avenue, according to investigators. A Hyundai Veloster traveling westbound on Forrest Avenue struck the Honda, hitting its right front side with the left front of the Hyundai.

The driver of the Honda, a 76-year-old woman from Dover, was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities have not released her name pending family notification.

The Hyundai’s driver, a 17-year-old male from Marydel, Maryland, was also taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Forrest Avenue was partially shut down for approximately three and a half hours as the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

Police have not announced any charges or citations related to the crash as of Saturday.
