MYRTLE BEACH, SC — A suspect is in custody following a police pursuit Thursday night that began with a failed traffic stop and resulted in an officer being struck by a vehicle, according to Myrtle Beach Police.
At approximately 9:04 p.m., officers attempted to stop a Toyota 4Runner at 1200 North Ocean Boulevard. The driver fled the scene, prompting a second stop attempt one block north. As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect accelerated and struck a bicycle officer before fleeing again.
Police pursued the vehicle, which struck a law enforcement unit during the chase. Spike strips were successfully deployed, and the pursuit ended at 16th Avenue North and Withers Drive, where the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released with minor injuries.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department stated the investigation remains active and thanked the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Police Department, and South Carolina Highway Patrol for their assistance.
