FARMINGTON, Del. — A 21-year-old man from Greenwood was killed early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Shawnee Road, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. when a GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling southbound at what appeared to be a high rate of speed veered off the east side of the roadway just south of Breezy Meadow Lane.

Police said the truck struck a tree with the left rear side before continuing south and crashing head-on into a second tree.

The driver, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

Shawnee Road was partially closed for about three and a half hours as the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the scene.

The investigation remains active.
