Man shot and killed near school on highway overpass in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — A 43-year-old man was found shot to death late Sunday night on the overpass of Route 40 near Atlantic City High School, authorities confirmed.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. on July 6, the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a 911 call from a motorist who reported a man down in the area of 1400 N. Albany Avenue. Officers arrived to find Vaughn Lyons, of Atlantic City, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy conducted by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are jointly investigating the case.

No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not disclosed any suspect information or possible motive.
