Gunfight at Philadelphia party leaves eight injured, including two security guards

PHILADELPHIA — A mass shooting at a party on 27th Avenue early Sunday left eight people injured, including two security guards, after a gunfight erupted during a physical altercation on an exterior balcony, police said.

Officers from the 3rd District responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 3:54 a.m. and discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to area hospitals and are currently listed in stable condition.

The incident began with a confrontation on a balcony that escalated into gunfire, according to investigators. Video footage from the scene shows chaos as shots were exchanged in what police described as a “gunfight.”

Victims were treated at four hospitals. At Presbyterian Hospital, a 25-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds to her right arm and left hip, and a 30-year-old man was treated for wounds to his right buttock and left arm.

At Jefferson Hospital, a 28-year-old man arrived via private transport with a gunshot wound to his left knee, a 27-year-old woman had a wound to her left buttock, a 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and right arm, and a 43-year-old male security guard was shot in the groin.

A second 43-year-old security guard was treated at Methodist Hospital for a gunshot wound to the left arm. A 25-year-old woman with a leg wound was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Group is leading the ongoing investigation.

A pre-dawn gun battle at a Philadelphia party injured eight, including two security guards, police said.
