Pickpocket steals wallet on Bronx bus then attempts purchase at Foot Locker

NEW YORK CITY - MAY 7, 2013: MTA Hybrid Electric Bus Route 5 on Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street, New York City, USA.

BRONX, N.Y. – A woman was targeted in a pickpocket theft while boarding an MTA bus in the Bronx, with the suspect later attempting to use her credit card at a nearby sneaker store, police said.

The incident occurred as the victim was getting on the BX35 bus at River Avenue and East 167th Street when an unidentified man also boarding the bus approached her from behind and removed her wallet from inside her purse.

According to police, the suspect immediately exited the bus after the theft. The victim attempted to chase the individual to retrieve her wallet but was unsuccessful.

Shortly after fleeing, the suspect attempted to use one of the stolen credit cards at a Foot Locker located at 30 East 170th Street. The transaction was not completed, authorities said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion, approximately 25 to 30 years old, of medium build. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans, white sneakers, and a white hat.
