SILVER SPRING, MD — A Montgomery County man who spends his weekends playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs claimed a $50,000 top prize on Saturday after purchasing a Cash to Go ticket in Takoma Park.
The winner, a Silver Spring resident, bought the $5 ticket on July 5 from the 7-Eleven at 900 Merrimac Avenue. After scratching the ticket, he realized he had won the game’s top prize — for the second time in his life.
He previously won a $50,000 prize nearly a decade ago and chose the Cash to Go game this time based on past luck with it. After revealing the prize, he reportedly sat still for several minutes, trying to process the outcome.
The Cash to Go scratch-off was released in November and launched with seven top prizes of $50,000. With this latest win, six of those prizes have now been claimed. The game still offers four second-tier prizes worth $5,000 and hundreds of thousands of smaller cash prizes.
The 7-Eleven that sold the winning ticket will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
