Deadly 4th Street shooting ends in murder charge for Virginia man

WASHINGTON, DC — A 47-year-old Virginia man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month in Southeast Washington, D.C., police announced Tuesday.

The shooting took place on Friday, June 27, at approximately 1:54 a.m. Officers from the Seventh District responded to a reported disturbance in the 4200 block of 4th Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, they found an adult male inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.

DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead after lifesaving efforts failed. The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Deandre Lewis of Northeast, DC.

On Monday, July 7, police arrested Maurice Gaskins, of Arlington, Virginia. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed. Investigators say Gaskins was known to the victim.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
