Trucks Torched at Maryland Business as Arson Investigation Launched

DENTON, Md. — Authorities are investigating an attempted arson at Murphy’s Transport in Caroline County after multiple vehicles were targeted and damaged, officials said Wednesday.

The incident was discovered the morning of July 7 by business owner Bryan Saathoff, who found significant fire damage to the interior of one truck parked at the property located at 421 West Belle Road. Subsequent checks revealed that additional vehicles had also been targeted in the apparent arson attempt.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the investigation, with estimated damages totaling approximately $100,000. The Maryland State Police were initially contacted by Saathoff, who reported the incident shortly after making the discovery.

No injuries were reported, and investigators have not yet identified any suspects. Officials are requesting assistance from the public as the case remains open.

“Investigators request the public’s assistance in an ongoing investigation into an attempted arson involving multiple vehicles,” the State Fire Marshal’s Office stated Wednesday.
