Suspect named after 3-year-old shot in family car

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 3-year-old girl shot while sitting in a parked vehicle early Saturday in Southeast D.C. has died, and police have identified a suspect in her killing.

Honesty Cheadle was critically wounded around 3:03 a.m. on the 1000 block of 14th Street SE when gunfire struck the car where she was seated with family members. She was rushed to a hospital and succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

Investigators say at least one individual began firing in the block, striking the vehicle. Detectives believe Honesty was not the intended target.

A warrant has been issued for 24-year-old Charles Rucker of Southeast D.C., who is wanted for First Degree Murder while Armed. Police released two images of Rucker and are asking for public assistance in locating him.

The reward for information leading to an arrest has increased to an undisclosed amount with contributions from the FBI Washington Field Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators as the search for the suspect continues.
