JESSUP, Md. — A longtime Maryland Lottery player from Jessup claimed a $50,000 prize after scratching off a winning $30 Cash is King ticket, officials announced Thursday.

The winner, who has been playing since the Lottery began in 1973, purchased the ticket at U.S. 1 Liquors located at 8167 Washington Boulevard in Jessup. He visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize on July 10.

The $50,000 payout was the last of six second-tier prizes available in the Cash is King game, which launched on September 19, 2022. One top prize of $2 million remains unclaimed.

The player said he enjoys playing for the thrill of the game rather than for financial reasons, adding that he hadn’t yet decided what to do with the winnings.
