The former head varsity wrestling coach at Bellwood Antis School District was convicted Tuesday for endangering the welfare of a child after failing to protect students during a sexual abuse investigation involving another coach, according to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
A Blair County jury found 59-year-old Timothy Andrekovich guilty following a two-day trial. Sentencing is scheduled for August 25.
Authorities said Andrekovich did not enforce safety measures after learning in December 2019 that junior high wrestling coach Ryan Blazier was under investigation for child sexual abuse. Despite being notified of the threat, Andrekovich allowed Blazier continued unsupervised access to student-athletes.
Blazier was later convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to decades in prison in June 2023.
“As head wrestling coach, the defendant was supposed to be looking out for his wrestlers. Instead, when notified of a potential threat, he abdicated his responsibility to protect those students,” Attorney General Dave Sunday said.
