A group of four siblings claimed a $1.8 million Multi-Match jackpot from the June 30 drawing after purchasing the winning ticket in Ocean City, Maryland, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The group had been playing together for eight years after forming a lottery pool to celebrate the birth of a family member. Their long-running tradition paid off when they matched all six numbers in the drawing. The annuity jackpot was split with a second winning ticket sold in Silver Spring, bringing the siblings’ share to $980,000. They opted for the cash option, receiving $490,000 before taxes.

The ticket was purchased by one of the siblings at the Food Lion on Stephen Decatur Highway while she was on vacation. She discovered the win after scanning the ticket and seeing a “Go to Lottery” message, which she confirmed on the Lottery app before alerting her siblings.

The winners, who are retired nurses and government employees, said plans for the prize money include travel to Europe, a new car, and investing.

The Ocean City Food Lion retailer will receive a $900 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
