DC cop rammed by rogue driver in brazen U Street takedown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A police officer was injured early Monday morning when a driver fled a traffic stop on U Street in Northwest D.C., striking the officer with a vehicle before speeding away, officials said.

The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on July 14, when officers from the Third District attempted to stop a vehicle in the 1300 block of U Street NW. As officers approached to detain the driver, the suspect accelerated, hitting one of the officers and another vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Tipsters are asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text 50411 with information.
