BALTIMORE, MD — A 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with auto theft after police tracked down a stolen vehicle using aerial surveillance in the city’s Eastern District, authorities said Monday.

The car had been reported stolen from the 5500 block of Ritter Avenue on June 30. Twelve days later, on July 12 at around 6:40 p.m., officers from the Eastern District Action Team, with help from the police aviation unit Foxtrot, spotted the stolen vehicle in the 3200 block of Dudley Avenue.

When officers moved in, suspects jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. Investigators apprehended the 14-year-old alleged driver and a 12-year-old passenger shortly afterward.

The teen driver was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center and faces multiple counts of auto theft. The 12-year-old was released to a family member due to his age.

Police have not released the names of the juveniles due to their ages.
