Toms River sinkhole repaired, access to municipal pool and rec department restored

Traffic cone in flooded road

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A large sinkhole that disrupted traffic and access to several streets in the Snug Harbor area has been repaired, restoring entry to the Toms River Municipal Pool and Recreation Department, authorities announced.

Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick thanked the workers who quickly repaired the sinkhole this morning.

The sinkhole formed near Merrimac Drive and Warren Point Drive and was initially believed to have been caused by a water leak. Police said the affected area had limited access to Seaman Court, Ship Court, Pinta Court, and Mizzen Road as a result.

The Toms River Police Department directed traffic around the sinkhole while crews from the water company responded to the scene to address the leak and repair the road.

Residents were advised to use caution in the area during the incident.
