BALTIMORE, MD — A Towson University student from Montgomery County won $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery’s Lucky 777 scratch-off game after initially believing he had only won $5,000.
The student, who used the alias “Lucky Tiger” when claiming the prize, thought he had scored a single $5,000 win from an “Autowin” symbol on his ticket. He later handed the ticket to his mother, who discovered three additional $5,000 Autowins and a 3X multiplier on a $10,000 prize box, bringing the total to $50,000.
The ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 18120 Georgia Avenue in Olney, was later scanned to confirm the full prize amount.
“Lucky Tiger,” a regular lottery player since turning 18, claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on Sunday. He said he plans to spend part of the money and save the rest toward college expenses.
The Lucky 777 game launched on May 19 and began with six $1 million top prizes and eight $50,000 second-tier prizes. With this latest win, five of the $50,000 prizes have been claimed. Four $1 million and three $50,000 prizes remain unclaimed, along with tens of thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $20 to $10,000.
