Traffic slows to a crawl near Watchung Square Mall amid flood-related construction

WATCHUNG, N.J. — Heavy traffic congestion is being reported along Route 22 East and West in the area surrounding the Watchung Square Mall due to ongoing construction related to recent flooding, according to the Watchung Police Department.

Police issued the alert Monday morning, warning drivers to expect significant delays in the area.

“Due to ongoing construction from the flooding, there will be heavy delays and congestion on Route 22 East and West in the area of the Watchung Square Mall,” the department posted on Facebook.

The flooding, which occurred recently, prompted infrastructure repairs that are now causing major traffic backups near the shopping center.

Officials have not provided a timeline for when the construction is expected to be completed.
