Retiree wins $40K on Keno might spring for a new car

ROSEDALE, MD — A retired police officer from Dundalk walked away with a $40,000 prize after hitting all eight numbers in a Keno game played at a Rosedale gas station — and it’s not even his biggest win.

The longtime Maryland Lottery player matched all numbers in an eight-spot Keno game on July 15, playing with the Super Bonus feature. The base prize of $10,000 was multiplied four times by a randomly generated X4 bonus, pushing the total to $40,000.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell gas station located at 7514 Pulaski Highway. The retailer will receive a $400 bonus for selling the ticket.

The winner, who claimed the prize Wednesday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, said he plays Keno nearly every day and often chooses numbers tied to personal connections. This time, he picked numbers assigned to friends in his deer hunting club.

The win adds to his growing list of past Keno successes, including a $50,036 prize in July last year and multiple wins in the $20,000 range.

As for what comes next, the father of four said his children are already aware of the win — and a new car may be in his future.
