Brooklyn man sentenced to 19 years to life for fatal deli shooting during robbery

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for the 2021 murder of a 20-year-old deli clerk during a robbery on Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.

Ricardo Senatus, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on June 24 and was sentenced today by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Dineen Riviezzo.

According to the investigation, on December 14, 2021, around 7:30 p.m., Senatus entered a deli at 803 Flatbush Avenue wearing a mask and carrying a firearm. He went behind the counter and demanded money from store clerk Fadhl Moosa. During a struggle, Senatus shot Moosa in the head.

Senatus initially fled the store but returned moments later, stepping over the victim to take money from the register. He was later apprehended in Newark, New Jersey, on December 20, 2021.

“This was a cold-blooded and senseless execution of a young man who was simply doing his job,” said District Attorney Gonzalez. “Today’s sentence ensures that the defendant will be held accountable for this horrific crime.”
