D.C. man wins $50,000 on Maryland Lottery Bonus Match 5 ticket

TEMPLE HILLS, MD — A Washington, D.C., man who prefers buying lottery tickets in Maryland saw his strategy pay off with a $50,000 win in the July 15 drawing of the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

Derrick Hardy claimed the prize on July 17 at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. A longtime fan of lottery games, Hardy said he’s had more luck across the state line, with previous wins of $400, $600, and even a five-digit payout on a $5 Pick 4 bet.

For this win, Hardy used a familiar number combination he had played before—one that had previously netted a smaller prize.

“This was my personal-best Lottery win,” he said. The winnings will go toward his retirement savings.

Hardy purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 4508 St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills. The retailer receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

A D.C. man’s go-to Maryland Lottery numbers hit big, scoring him $50,000 in Bonus Match 5.
