Man arrested after firing illegal gun in fit of road in New Jersey out on bail reform days later

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A Bayville man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly firing a gun during a road rage incident on Lacey Road and fleeing the scene, police said. He was arrested and placed into the Ocean County Jail.

Police identified the suspect as Paul R. Cacciola, 39, of Bayville. A black pistol was recovered during the arrest. As of Saturday, he is not listed on the Ocean County Jail inmate roster, signaling that he could have been released under New Jersey Bail Reform laws.

Lacey Township Police responded around 8:10 a.m. to a report of a man who exited his vehicle, brandished a firearm, and shot at another vehicle. The victim was not injured, but police confirmed damage to the vehicle consistent with a projectile strike.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. A search of the area led to the suspect being located in a parking lot off Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor.

Cacciola was charged with Certain Person Not to Have a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Terroristic Threats, Criminal Mischief, and Interference with Transportation. He was taken to the Ocean County Correctional Facility.

Members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted with the investigation.
