BRONX, N.Y. — An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested Friday afternoon in the Bronx and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, according to police.

Elisamuel Samboy, 30, was taken into custody at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 18 within the confines of the 52nd Precinct. Samboy is a police officer with the New York City Police Department.

Details surrounding the incident have not been released. The charge of criminal obstruction of breathing typically involves allegations of restricting someone’s airway without consent.

The NYPD has not issued further comment, and the investigation remains ongoing.
