Woman shot on roadway in Philadelphia, suspect in custody

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A woman was critically injured in a roadway shooting Friday morning in Philadelphia, prompting a swift police response and the detention of a possible suspect.

The incident occurred around 9:59 a.m. near 600 E. Indiana Avenue, where officers from the 24th District responded to a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police immediately transported the victim to Temple University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not confirmed a motive behind the shooting. However, an individual believed to be possibly involved has been taken into custody and is being held for further investigation.

“The following information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation progresses,” police said in an official statement.
