AKRON, Ohio — Gunfire broke out early Sunday morning during an attempted home break-in on the city’s west side, with multiple shootings reported over several hours, Akron Police said.
Officers responded around 3:05 a.m. to the 800 block of Stadelman Avenue after reports of shots fired. A 24-year-old woman told officers she saw two armed suspects trying to break into her home via her Ring camera app. She was not home at the time but drove back to the property and confronted the suspects.
Police said one suspect fired two shots into the air, prompting the woman to leave. She reported being followed by two vehicles, including a black Cadillac Escalade. When she returned home, the Escalade’s occupants allegedly opened fire. The woman fired back before the suspects fled the scene.
Roughly three hours later, additional shots were fired at her home. Detectives from the Major Crimes and Crime Scene Units recovered more than 15 shell casings from the driveway.
One suspect, captured on surveillance footage, is described as a light-skinned Black male between 15 and 20 years old. He was last seen wearing a mask, a white tank top, and jeans.
Police are continuing to investigate and working to identify those involved.
