GERMANTOWN, MD — A spontaneous decision to play Keno while stopping at a Germantown liquor store led to a $40,000 prize for an Upper Marlboro man on his way to visit a friend.

The winner purchased the ticket at sugarloaf wine cellar, located at 12955 Wisteria Drive. He placed a $2 wager on an 8-spot single draw with self-selected numbers, opting to add the super bonus feature, bringing the ticket total to $6.

He remained in the store to watch the numbers as they were drawn and realized soon after that his ticket had hit for the $40,000 prize.

The federal employee, married and a father of five, shared the news with his friend upon arrival. The retailer receives a $400 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
