Nap behind the wheel leads to DUI arrest of hit-and-run suspect on I-95

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A 29-year-old Spotsylvania man with an outstanding felony warrant was arrested Tuesday morning after a deputy found him drifting across lanes on I-95 with his eyes closed.

Deputy M.N. Sayegh was traveling southbound near mile marker 136 around 10:18 a.m. on July 22 when a Nissan veered far enough out of its lane to force another vehicle onto the shoulder. When Sayegh pulled alongside, she saw the driver appeared to be asleep.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver — identified as Luke Williamson — was found to be wanted out of Fairfax County for felony hit and run. Investigators also learned Williamson had a prior DUI conviction from 2018.

Williamson now faces charges of second-offense DUI within five to ten years, a traffic lane violation, and was served his outstanding warrant. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
