Man charged in attempted robbery at Claymont Dunkin’ Donuts then released on bail

CLAYMONT, Del. — A Wilmington man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly attempting to rob a woman outside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Claymont, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers responded at approximately 5:41 a.m. to the store located at 3224 Philadelphia Pike after receiving a report of an attempted strong-arm robbery.

Investigators say the victim had placed her suitcase outside the store when a man approached and took it. The victim confronted the suspect and retrieved her suitcase before entering the business. The suspect then followed her inside, began striking her, and tried to forcibly remove her from the premises while demanding the suitcase.

The man fled the scene on foot without the victim’s belongings. Police said the victim was not injured.

Troopers located a man matching the suspect’s description walking southbound on Philadelphia Pike shortly after the incident. He was identified as 37-year-old Leroy Buchanan and taken into custody without incident.

Buchanan was transported to Troop 1, where he was charged with attempted robbery and related offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
