WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fugitive wanted in connection with a deadly 2024 shooting in Southeast D.C. has been arrested in New York, police announced Friday.
On October 21, 2024, officers responded to the intersection of 16th Street and Kentucky Avenue Southeast around 9:44 a.m. for reports of a shooting. They found 23-year-old Jakele Allen of Northeast D.C. suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by D.C. Fire and EMS, Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
On July 24, members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 36-year-old Kareem Thomas of the Bronx in Mount Vernon, New York. Thomas was wanted on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder while Armed.
