Suspect busted after deadly D.C. shooting kills 55-year-old

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police arrested a man shortly after a fatal double shooting late Saturday in Southeast D.C. that left one person dead and another injured.

The shooting happened around 11:23 p.m. on July 26 in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Southeast. Officers found 55-year-old Clay Hargrave of White Plains, Maryland, unconscious and not breathing with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

A second victim, an adult male, was located inside a nearby establishment suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police canvassed the area and quickly located the suspect. Detectives charged 46-year-old Charles Mitchell Jr., of Woodbridge, Virginia, with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
