Stamford SUV driver seriously hurt after smashing into dump truck

Police - Traffic Enforcement with lights at scene

STAMFORD, CT – A 48-year-old Stamford resident suffered serious injuries Monday night after the SUV they were driving struck the rear of a dump truck on Long Ridge Road.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Long Ridge Road and Roxbury Road. Police said a 2007 Sterling full-size dump truck was slowing as the traffic light turned red when a 2024 Kia EV6 SUV slammed into its rear, causing extensive damage to the SUV.

The driver of the Kia was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The dump truck operator was also taken to Stamford Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the collision. Both vehicles were towed, and Long Ridge Road was partially closed for approximately three hours.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at (203) 977-4712.
