SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — A suspected freeway shooter was arrested Tuesday morning after a high-speed traffic stop on Interstate 80 led officers to firearms and ammunition connected to an earlier shooting in Oakland, the California Highway Patrol said.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., CHP – Solano officers conducted a high-risk stop on a white Chrysler Crossfire near Midway Road after observing the vehicle speeding and driving erratically. During the stop, officers reportedly saw the driver discarding items from the car.
The vehicle was later connected to a freeway shooting that took place earlier the same day in Oakland. In response, CHP – Solano and CHP – Oakland units coordinated efforts and searched the area.
Officers recovered three high-capacity magazines, a Glock pistol, and shell casings inside the vehicle.
The driver, who has not yet been identified, was arrested on multiple felony charges and taken into custody.
CHP credited the successful arrest to joint efforts by multiple divisions and said the seizure helped remove a potentially dangerous individual from the freeway system.
A high-risk traffic stop on I-80 ended with the arrest of a suspected freeway shooter and the seizure of a loaded weapon and high-capacity magazines.
