Friend’s suggestion lands Potomac man $50,000 Maryland Lottery win

POTOMAC, MD – A Potomac man landed a $50,000 top prize on a Maryland Lottery FAST PLAY ticket after following a friend’s recommendation to try his luck.

The Montgomery County resident bought the $5 Double Win ticket on May 19 at the Safeway located at 10104 River Road in Potomac. He said it took only one glance to see that his number 39 matched a winning number with the $50,000 prize underneath.

He claimed his prize Aug. 1 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The winner said he plans to use part of his windfall to visit his home country of Pakistan.

Safeway will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket. As of Aug. 1, 13 of the original 20 top prizes for the Double Win game remain unsold.
