Yonkers man busted for stealing over $50K in church artwork scam

HYDE PARK, N.Y. — A Yonkers man has been charged with grand larceny after allegedly pocketing more than $50,000 for church artwork he never delivered, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Fatjon Sulaj, 35, was arrested Monday following a month-long investigation into a complaint that he took payment under false pretenses from a local church.

Authorities say Sulaj was hired to create artwork but never completed — or began — the project.

He was charged with grand larceny in the second degree, a felony. After processing, Sulaj was released with an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hyde Park Court on August 12 at 5 p.m.
