A 20-year-old Honduran national living in the United States illegally has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing during a soccer game in Baldwin County, Alabama, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Javier Lopez Tinoco was arrested on July 29, ten days after allegedly stabbing a man three times during a public match in Summerdale on July 19. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office charged Lopez Tinoco with attempted murder. Authorities say he fled the scene immediately after the attack.
When arrested, Lopez Tinoco was reportedly in possession of four small bags of cocaine. He is currently being held in local custody.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an immigration detainer against Lopez Tinoco to ensure he remains in custody and is not released back into the community. ICE officials confirmed that Lopez Tinoco had a prior arrest in 2024 for public intoxication.
Federal officials described the incident as another example of a violent criminal undocumented immigrant posing a threat to public safety. His case is now pending both criminal prosecution and immigration proceedings.
