Ocean County greenlights major traffic safety upgrades across 5 townships

Toms River, NJ — Traffic patterns across Ocean County are set for a significant overhaul after officials approved a series of safety upgrades, including signal revisions and no-passing zone changes on several heavily traveled roads, with projects planned in Jackson, Brick, Barnegat, Lacey, and Little Egg Harbor.

The most notable change includes the alteration of no-passing zones along County Road #10 (Bennetts Mills Road-Aldrich Road) in Jackson Township, a busy corridor frequently used by commuters and local traffic. The modification aims to improve visibility and reduce collision risks in key stretches identified by county engineers.

Additionally, Brick Township will see revisions to traffic signals at three critical intersections along Princeton Avenue (County Road #8). Signals will be updated at:

  • Midstreams Road (County Road #54)
  • Beaver Dam Road / 5th Street (County Road #65)
  • Brushy Neck Drive and Johnson Street

The goal of the signal improvements is to enhance intersection timing, reduce congestion, and accommodate growing traffic volumes in Brick’s residential and commercial areas.

In Barnegat Township, two intersections near the Barnegat 67 Plaza will receive upgraded signals along County Road #105 (Lighthouse Drive):

  • The junction with the Garden State Parkway southbound ramps
  • The intersection at Lighthouse Crossing

Both locations serve as access points to retail and residential complexes and are prone to heavy traffic during peak hours.

Meanwhile, Lacey Township will undergo the most extensive series of upgrades. Four intersections along Lacey Road (County Road #33/Route 614) are set for signal revisions:

  • GSP Exit 74 Northbound ramps
  • Lake Barnegat Drive North and South
  • Deerhead Lake Drive and Denton Avenue
  • Newark Avenue

Lacey Road is a key east-west thoroughfare in the township, and these changes are expected to ease backups and improve pedestrian safety at key cross-streets.

Finally, in Little Egg Harbor, a signal update is planned for the intersection of Radio Road (County Road #25/Route 601) and Oak Lake, improving traffic flow for a densely populated area often impacted by seasonal shore traffic.

The county did not immediately provide a timeline for construction, but these projects are part of an ongoing traffic engineering initiative focused on reducing crashes, improving roadway efficiency, and addressing local concerns about safety.
