21-year-old nabbed after DC alley shooting leaves one wounded

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Saturday night shooting that left one person seriously injured in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, authorities said.

Just before midnight on May 10, officers from the Third District responded to reports of gunfire in an alley behind the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW. Shortly afterward, an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds was found inside a nearby residence. He was transported by DC Fire and EMS to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Responding officers located a suspect in the area and took him into custody without incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Suspect charged as shooting investigation continues

The suspect, identified as Kyiel Kearny, 21, of Southeast, D.C., has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). The case remains under investigation as detectives work to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
