24-year-old shot and killed in Canarsie

Brooklyn, NY – A 24-year-old was shot and killed on Monday in Canarsie and police are searching for the suspect, who is still at large.

On Monday, at around 4:15 pm, police received a 911 call reporting a shooting in front of 9502 Avenue L, within the 69 Precinct.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a 24-year-old male with two gunshot wounds to the torso,” the NYPD reported.

The man was immediately transported to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased has since been identified as Nelson Ortiz, a 24-year-old male who resided at 9319 Avenue L in Brooklyn.

At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
