$2M jackpot shocker for Charles County player with lucky liquor store buy

Pile of money.

Indian Head, MD — A Charles County man is celebrating a $2,041,396 payday after hitting the progressive jackpot on a $30 FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive ticket, Maryland Lottery officials confirmed Wednesday.

The lucky retiree purchased the winning ticket at Mutt’s Liquors, located at 4541 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head. After scanning the ticket, he saw the “Go to Lottery” message, which left him and his wife unsure about the amount they had won.

Later, they read a news report stating a $2 million FAST PLAY prize had been sold at the same store, prompting them to schedule an appointment at Lottery headquarters. On July 1, their jackpot win was officially verified.

The couple plans to use the money to buy a home and help family members, officials said.

Mutt’s Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket. The FAST PLAY progressive jackpot grows with each ticket sold until a winning ticket is claimed.
