41-Year-Old Man Shot And Killed Inside Vehicle in D.C., Suspect Arrested

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch has made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast Washington, D.C. early yesterday morning.

The incident took place at around 2:42 a.m. Officers, responding to reports of gunshots, were directed to the 700 block of 16th Street in Northeast D.C. There, they discovered an adult male, later identified as 41-year-old Kelvin Hamlett of Southwest D.C., who had been shot inside a vehicle. Despite their efforts, Hamlett was pronounced dead at the scene.

During their investigation at the site, detectives identified a suspect and issued a lookout. Members of the Crime Suppression Team were successful in locating and apprehending this individual, who was found in possession of a handgun.

The suspect, 46-year-old John Dickens, II, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
